[most recent customer feedback for a consumer product development]

VentureTech was the best. They gave us exactly what we wanted in terms of design, and were so easy to work with, getting back to us usually within a couple of hours (but usually less) even with the time difference. As far as value, we were very happy. We were quoted a price of 3 times his price to have the exact same work done here in the states.

In terms of knowledge/expertise, they certainly seem to be very knowledgeable in the field of electronics, and they were always very happy to explain things on our level if need be.

[Case studies]

Take as an example integrated sourcing of critical components and design: we have seen component costs dropping by 70% by sourcing optimization, while preliminary design would have locked in the more expensive components because of all the money invested in engineering. By synchronizing these efforts the savings can be optimal.

Apparant simple designs can lead to complex tooling if not engineered right, increasing the investment cost in tooling and part cost because of increased cycle time. We always have a panel of mutli discipline experts review the design details before committing to a significant number of CAD and  engineering hours.

Unfortunately we get calls for help from customers who got stuck due to insufficient upfront design for manufacturing by a 3rd party firm. The closer to ship date the project is, the higher the cost of fixing these issues and the less options are available.

VentureTech really tries very hard to avoid fixing problems in the end, where nobody can really win, by doing solid engineering and planning upfront.

The “follow the sun” concept has been in use since the realisation of good Internet connection speed. Tools such as Gotomeeting support live sharing of CAD files, sound and text, email functions well as a delayed communicator.

A recent customer needed a feasibility review of a new design, with a very deep core, short snap hooks and complex over mold (inside). Calculations showed that the snap hooks wouldn’t be able to sustain multiple applications. A typical life specification would dictate at least 600 applications for a 3 year warranty.

After thorough review a decision was made to focus on an entirely different design, which turned out very succesful in terms of sales. The review process took place in a matter of a week, with 5 different design options.

Most meetings were conducted via Gotomeeting, with some email support during non-overlapping hours. Off hours responses from this side would be in review during US daytime, with counter proposals arriving the next morning in China, ready for discussion.

This smooth cooperation lead to a quick convergence to the most successful solution: US marketing, designers and engineers can combine the strength of knowledge and economics of manufacturing in China, with understanding of the market culture and consumer demands on this side.
